The Teatro Sac Carlo is the oldest working theatre in Europe. It's first performance, Metastasio's opera Achille in Sciro, was held in 1737, and its stage has been full ever since. After the theatre suffered major damage in a 1816 fire, it was rebuilt without any major renovations except for an improved orchestra pit, suggested by Verdi in 1872, and the addition of electricity in 1890. Address: Via San Carlo, 98 Naples NA Italy 80132
